The Air Miles loyalty program partners with dozens of merchants in Canada to offer rewards to collectors who shop with them. It is one of the most popular loyalty programs and although it is best known for offering different types of travel rewards, it now includes other rewards like cash, event tickets and merchandise. If you are looking for a no-fee card, one that comes with a sizable welcome bonus, or a card that can be used to collect Air Miles, there is a perfect card for you.

Best Overall Card - BMO Air Miles Mastercard

BMO Air Miles Mastercard remains the best overall card. It has no annual fees and offers you 1 mile per 20 dollars spent. You can double this rate when you shop at any of the Air Miles partners and use your collector card when checking out.

With the BMO Air Miles Mastercard, you can enjoy purchase protection, extended warranties at eligible partners and car rental discounts at partners such as Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental. This is the best all-round Air Miles reward card. When you redeem any of the many rewards available, you will be happy to know that all these rewards come for free.

As an additional perk, there are no income requirements for getting the BMO Air Miles Mastercard.

BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard

The BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard is the best credit card for those who use the Air Miles Program mainly to travel. By offering a mile for every $10 spent, this credit card has one of the best earn rates in Canada. For new cardholders, you get 2000 extra miles if you spend $3000 using the card in the first 3 months of getting it.

The BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard also comes with perks specific to avid travellers. These include:

Free membership of the Mastercard Airport Experiences offered by Loungekey. This also comes with two annual passes and VIP passes to more than 1000 lounges all over the world

A 15% price reduction on all flights paid for with Air Miles originating and terminating in North America

Travel insurance that covers out-of-country and out-of-province medical cover for those younger than 65 years

Car rental, trip cancellation and flight delays are also covered.

BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard also provides protection for lost personal valuables.

The card is charged at $120 per year, but the first year is free, so you can enjoy all these perks before you start paying for them.

American Express Air Miles Platinum - for Everyday Spenders

The American Express Air Miles Platinum card gives you 2000 miles if you spend over $1500 in the first 3 months you have the card. This means your first flight is essentially paid for by the card. Cardholders also get a mile for every $5 they spend on grocery stores, gas, restaurants and transit purchases and one mile for $10 spent on other purchases. On top of all this, you also get a 25% bonus on Miles once a year for redemptions

This card is relatively easy to qualify for because there are no income requirements. It does have some downsides, though, like no out-of-province medical emergency coverage and no waiver in the annual fee of $120 for the first year like with the Air Miles World Elite card. Since it is issued by American Express, it is not as widely accepted as some of the options on this list.

BMO Air Miles Business Mastercard - for Those Serious About Business

The BMO Air Miles Business Mastercard gives you a welcome bonus of 3000 miles if you spend $5000 in the first 3 months. You also get a mile for every $10 you spend anywhere which means this card will earn you miles faster than most other cards. When you fuel at Shell, you also get 1.25 times the reward for every $10 spent.

The BMO Air Miles Business Mastercard comes with a $120 annual fee that is charged from the second year in addition to purchase protection, extended warranties, travel protection and car rental discounts. You can also get additional employee cards that come with their own perks.
